UG students - Maria Shirinyan, Tamar Simonishvili, Tamari Tchotashvili, and Ana Tchotashvili took part in the European Law Students Association’s Moot Court on World Trade Organization Law – “EMC2” in Kiev, Ukraine. In September, the UG team was selected and started preparing.
Our team argued in front of distinguished judges from the University of Edinburgh, University of Barcelona, and lawyers from the WTO’s dispute settlement system. One of the judges remarked that she was very impressed with the team’s level of English, as well as our legal arguments; she encouraged the team to help with next year’s team.
The teams had an opportunity to present their oral submissions both for the Complainant and the Respondent in front of a Panel. The Panel consists of WTO professionals and trade law experts. The EMC2 focuses on a very specific field of law; as a result, many employers in this field participate in this competition and encourage participants to apply to their firms. This was a great experience for the students. Our team members learnt these issues in-depth and also greatly improved their oral advocacy skills.
